Because sometimes you need to ditch the fancy hotels and hang out in nature. And by that, we mean doing so while maintaining access to running water and great coffee. Here are our favorite places to be one with nature-ish.
BELL TENT CAMPING (SPRING BRANCH)
At this spot outside San Antonio, a bell tent with a queen bed, bathroom and shower awaits you. The infrared sauna is free to guests, too, and you can also enjoy a massage, facial or Reiki session for an extra charge. You can even hit up the Shops at La Cantera before heading back to Dallas. Hey, no one said we were actually roughing it.
EL COSMICO (MARFA)
This Marfa hot spot fancies itself an outdoor retreat experience as opposed to a luxury lodging facility, but how could we not include the place that turned Texas on to the whole unplugging thing in the first place? Plus, we love their Come Together Happy Hour on select Saturdays, because what is camping without a bunch of boozy campers singing “Kumbaya”?
GERONIMO CREEK RETREAT (SEGUIN)
You’ll feel like you’re completely off the grid at this hidden oasis, even though you’re just outside of Seguin. Fish and swim in the creek, chill out by the fire pit and be one with the outdoors. But don’t worry: Your fully furnished teepee with a kitchenette, bathroom and gorgeous view is waiting for you when you need a break from the elements.
THE LINEY MOON (DRIPPING SPRINGS)
Have you always dreamed of living that tiny house life? Before taking the tiny big leap, test out the waters at one of these adorable cottages. And while hot dogs and s’mores are fine and all, we highly suggest heading to Stanley’s Farmhouse Pizza for a fun outdoor pizza party. And psst … Jester King Brewery is next door for your happy-hour hops.
SINYA ON LONE MAN CREEK (WIMBERLEY)
It’s the romantic vacay, girls’ trip or whatever you desperately needed when you proclaimed, “Let’s just get away!” Waking up to this sublime view is the cure for any wanderlust. Oh, and the spa bathrobes and hot tub don’t hurt, either. They also provide BeeKind beauty products, which support honey bee and sustainable pollination research. So you’re relaxing and saving the earth.
